Boroughbridge
Boroughbridge's name originated from its proximity to Aldborough, a Roman settlement known as Isurium Brigantum. The Roman road, Dere Street, initially crossed the River Ure near Aldborough, but it was later redirected to Boroughbridge. The first mention of Boroughbridge was in 1155 as "pontem de Burgo" in Latin, and by 1298, it was referred to as "Burghbrig" in English. A new town developed at the bridge, while the Old Town became known as 'Ald-Borough.'
This Walk is still in development.
